Security component upgrade

This page lets you upgrade a security component of your digital media player so you can play protected files on your computer acquired before upgrading to Windows Media Player 11.

To upgrade your security components, click Upgrade.



Troubleshooting

For Windows XP:

In order to use perform this upgrade, you must be logged in as an Administrator. Internet Explorer is recommended because this site depends on ActiveX technology. Do you see the Internet Explorer Info Bar as displayed in this picture?



If the Info Bar is displayed, follow the steps below to install the Genuine Windows Validation Component.

1. Right click the Info Bar and select Install the ActiveX Control (shown below).



2. In the Internet Explorer Security Warning dialog box, click the Install button.

3. Click the Upgrade button near the top of this page.


For Windows Vista:

Internet Explorer is recommended because this site depends on ActiveX technology. This site will only work for Windows Vista x86, if you are experiencing this problem on Windows Vista x64, please contact Microsoft Product Support. http://support.microsoft.com

Do you see the dialog as displayed in this picture? If you already closed this dialog, press "F5" on your keyboard to refresh and the dialog will reappear.



1. If the dialog is displayed, choose Continue. You may need to type the Administrator password.



2. When this dialog appears you will need to choose Install.

3. Click the Upgrade button near the top of this page.
